Best for skipping the car: the T light rail

Mt. Lebanon and Bethel Park sit on the T, Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s light rail, which runs straight into Downtown and avoids the Liberty Tunnel backups. Edgewood and the East End neighborhoods have quick East Busway access.

Best for airport commuters

Moon Township, Robinson and Sewickley put Pittsburgh International Airport within about 15 to 20 minutes.

Best for North Hills and I-79 commuters

Wexford, Warrendale and Cranberry Township are built around I-79 and the Turnpike, ideal if you work in Cranberry’s office parks or travel around the region.

Tips for testing a commute

  1. Drive it at the time you would actually go to work, both directions.
  2. Check for tunnel routes: the Fort Pitt, Squirrel Hill and Liberty Tunnels set rush-hour times.
  3. Look at park-and-ride lots and busway stops if you’d like a backup option.
